Jeffcock Road Cemetary
This cemetary is located near to Bantock Park. It is an old and well known municipal cemetary which is the last resting place of many of the town's former citizens. Due to th age of the cemetary, it is also the last resting place of some of the soldiers, sailors and airmen who lost their lives in two world wars. Here I hope to give an impression of the cemetary and to show some of the graves which stand out. I apologise in advance for any I have left out, and if anyone has a relative who is buried in the cemetary and wishes me to tell their story here - please let me know.

This is the Cross of Sacrifice which is located in the centre of the cemetary and it highlights the fact that as well as a municipal cemetary, it is the location of many war graves.
Most of the graves from the Great War are scattered around the cemetary and on a pleasant afternoon, I find that a walk through the cemetary is a humbling experience.
There is a separate plot of graves from the Second World War which is the last resting place of a number of British and Allied servicemen.

In this plot there are just over sixty graves. It is difficult to select from these without feeling that I have done an injustice to those I haven't selected. I will defend my selections only by saying that I want to show the totality of war and the wide effects it has.
Here is the grave of a female ATS officer.
This grave stands slightly apart from the others at the front of the plot. Could someone please translate the
Dutch inscription for me?
